The cabinet

The cabinets of the TCI range of loudspeakers are among the most complex available anywhere. The side panels, baffles and covers are manufactured from moulded laminated wood - the perfect material for loudspeaker cabinets!

The process of laminating multiple layers with offset grain directions, shaping and gluing the panels under heat and pressure, creates unbelievably stiff, distortion-resistant cabinet components. This technology is the key to producing the sculpted, three-dimensional cabinets of the TCI range, without pushing the weight of the cabinet up to unmanageable levels. This cabinet construction eliminates standing waves, cabinet coloration and resonance effects before they have a chance to develop.

The electrostatic principle

The electrostatic principle has been acknowledged and understood for a long time, and such drive units offer legendary dynamic range, fine detailing and optimum membrane travel characteristics.

Unfortunately electrostatic speakers have limitations in the bass range, and that is why T+A developed a curved electrostatic unit which is responsible only for the high-frequency range. This unit exploits to the full the advantages offered by the electrostatic principle of construction. The membrane has virtually zero mass, and is driven over its full area to produce a translucent sound of unexcelled transparency and lightness. Quite simply a superb high-frequency unit!

The mid-range drive unit

The mid-range drive unit is a real power-pack with the sort of dynamic qualities normally associated with PA speakers. Our unit features a saturated fibre cone and a low-profile surround which provides excellent damping, giving the unit an incredibly musical and pleasant character.

The bass drive unit

However, it is the bass units which are the true workhorses of TCI Active loudspeakers, as it is their task to convert very high power levels whilst always producing a clean, distortion-free sound. That is why they are made with rigid cones made of solid aluminium and cooled suspension systems, and are capable of enormous travels whilst remaining linear in action. True giants!
