For the first time the unit defined the true meaning of the term "digital speaker": not a digital device wired in front of a perfectly conventional loudspeaker, but a solidly digital signal processing system right up to the cross-over units. To achieve this feat of active power the A2D is equipped with four discrete power amplifiers, each rated at 150 Watts. The bass output is monitored opto-elctronically. A total of nine high-performance signal processors control the data processing system. They calculate the optimum gradients for the cross-over unit filters up to a maximum of 300 dB per octave, they eliminate speaker phase errors, and they ensure a linear frequency response in the listening room from the most profound bass range right up to the supersonic regions.
